"There's a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." – Leonard Cohen
Chel Delaney is a multidisciplinary artist and writer. Her photo-based work, images, assemblages and collages, often confront and document contemporary issues of social justice. Within her landscapes, she often uses their imagery as an interpretive expression of the individual and society's struggle with issues such as the pandemic, climate change and shortcomings of today's political systems.
"I am called to document social causes and events to bring attention to societal inequities," she says. "I admire and I am so thankful for the individuals and groups dedicated to the work that brings about change and makes our world a better place for all."
Chel says her work is often very intuitive with sensibilities that result in constructs or images that capture the graphic, as well as the painterly.
"The natural shifting play of light and shadow that illuminates and transforms is a wonderment that always draws me inside."
Chel is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, Columbia, with a BA in English Literature. She has studied the arts and photography at The Alternative Art School, International Center of Photography and The Southwest School of Art, San Antonio. In another life, Chel was a print editor and reporter. Her writing, reportage and photos have been recognized by the New Mexico and Florida Press associations.
Chel Delaney's images and artworks have been exhibited in juried shows in the U.S.
